New details about the stowaway who allegedly snuck onto an international Delta flight bound for NYC

NEW YORK (WABC) – French officials tell ABC News that the woman who allegedly sneaked onto a Delta Airlines international flight is a Russian citizen who did not have valid travel documents to enter the country.

The woman, a legal resident of the United States, did not have valid documents to enter France, where she had previously requested asylum.

The woman was put on a flight back to the US, but new video shows staff trying to restrain the unruly passenger on November 30.

She was taken off the plane and taken back into police custody and will remain temporarily in France.

In the video, the woman can be heard saying she doesn’t want to return to the United States, that she has “asylum against the United States” and mentions the Geneva Conventions.

Last week, Delta Flight 264 took off from JFK Airport and landed at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris the next day with a stowaway who had somehow avoided security checks, authorities said.

Police boarded the plane at Paris airport, according to a passenger’s video shared on social media. “This is the captain. “We’re just waiting for the police to get on board,” the pilot can be heard saying.

Daniel Velez, a spokesman for the Transportation Security Administration, said that “an individual without a boarding pass” was screened at Kennedy and was not carrying any prohibited items.

“TSA takes seriously any incidents that occur at any of our checkpoints nationwide,” Velez said. “TSA will independently review the circumstances surrounding this incident at our travel document inspection facility at JFK.”

A Delta spokesman said in a statement: “Nothing is more important than issues of safety. “For this reason, Delta is conducting a comprehensive investigation into what may have occurred and will work with other aviation stakeholders and law enforcement to this end.”

The French National Police said on Friday: “A passenger of Russian nationality was smuggled onto a flight from New York (JFK) to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle.”

The passenger “was denied entry into France because she did not have a valid travel document (visa) and was placed in a waiting area for the time necessary for her repatriation to the United States because she held a valid U.S. residence permit.” the National Police said in a statement.

A spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which operates Kennedy Airport, declined to comment.

Federal investigators are investigating how the woman broke through several security points at JFK Airport and slipped onto the plane without a boarding pass.
