The technology issue caused widespread service disruptions, impacted flight schedules and prevented customers from booking tickets through the airline’s website, mobile application and contact center.

The technical outage occurred at the same time as the company launched its Cyber Monday flight sales, adding to customer frustration. Alaska Airlines acknowledged the significant operational disruption and publicly apologized on its website and social media platforms.

While the specific nature of the technology failure has not yet been disclosed, the airline confirmed that the issue created significant challenges for travelers.

In early September of this year, Alaska Airlines experienced an IT outage that resulted in service disruptions, temporarily grounding flights in Seattle and impacting customer service channels.

The airline implemented a flight suspension around 10 p.m. local time due to unspecified technical issues. Customers experienced widespread service disruptions that impacted flight bookings, mobile applications and website functionality.

Alaska Airlines has issued a public alert urging travelers to check flight status and consider rescheduling or canceling flights if possible. The carrier actively apologized through digital platforms and acknowledged that the technical outage caused inconvenience.

The technology outage came amid ongoing cybersecurity challenges at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. In August, the airport experienced a significant cyberattack involving hackers 6 million dollars in Bitcoin for stolen documents. The Port of Seattle, which manages the airport, refused to pay the ransom, choosing instead to deal with the consequences of the breach.

The airport has been systematically recovering from the August cyberattack that initially crippled operations during the peak Labor Day holiday travel season. These successive technological disruptions underscore the increasing vulnerability of transportation infrastructure to digital threats.
