Max Verstappen survived the chaotic Qatar Grand Prix unscathed and stormed to victory ahead of Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri in a remarkably eventful race.

The Red Bull driver quickly recovered from his one-place grid penalty and took the lead from George Russell on the first lap. He would then control the field and avoid a series of escalating incidents over the 57 laps.

Penalties were imposed on a large number of drivers for false starts, collisions and speeding in the pit lane. However, the most serious penalty was imposed on Lando Norris at a time when McLaren hoped to secure the constructors’ title.

The Briton failed to slow under the yellow flags that were waved when Alex Albon’s wing mirror fell on the main straight and was subsequently given a 10-second stop-and-go penalty – the first of its kind since the Grand Prix of Italy 2020.

He recovered and secured two points with the fastest lap in P10, finishing behind Kevin Magnussen and Zhou Guanyu, who scored their first points of the 2024 season for Kick Sauber.
