Woody Johnson will not travel to the UK but could get another appointment with Trump

It appears Jets owner Woody Johnson will not be returning to England.

There has been speculation that Johnson could be reappointed as ambassador to the United Kingdom by President-elect Donald Trump.

Johnson served in that role during Trump’s first term as president. But Trump announced Monday that he was nominating investment banker Warren Stephens for the post.

That doesn’t mean Johnson couldn’t end up as an ambassador to another country or in a completely different role in the Trump administration, but the Jets and the NFL believed his most likely destination was a return to London.

The Jets are currently mired in an abysmal 3-9 season and Johnson is under increased scrutiny for his role in the franchise’s continued failures.

Johnson fired coach Robert Saleh in October and general manager Joe Douglas last month.

The Jets began their search for a new GM and coach last week. Johnson will lead the search, but the Jets hired The 33approx The team supports him in identifying and screening candidates for the positions.

Johnson served as ambassador to the United Kingdom under Trump from 2017 to 2021.

During this time, his brother Christopher Johnson oversaw the Jets’ day-to-day operations.

Christopher is expected to be back in charge when Woody Johnson departs in 2025.

There are many questions surrounding the team’s future, starting with the new GM and coach, but also how the Jets will handle 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Even if Johnson is appointed by Trump, he should stay with the Jets long enough to oversee the search for the new GM and coach and plan the team’s offseason.

In 2017, Johnson did not leave for England until the summer.
