UPDATE: Vigo County school bus hits ditch; all OK | Local News

Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a school bus in a ditch in the western part of the county Monday afternoon.

The driver of the bus said she was turning onto New Goshen Avenue when the back end of the bus began to slide off the side of the road and eventually into the ditch, the sheriff’s office reported around 3:30 p.m

The bus was occupied by the driver and eight students. No injuries were reported on site. The sheriff’s office said all students were registered and in school at this time.

The Vigo County School Corp. issued the following statement later Monday afternoon:

“Vigo County students and staff are safe after a school bus slid off the road shortly after dismissal Monday afternoon. We are grateful to report that neither students nor the bus driver were injured. The incident occurred just outside the Fayette Elementary School campus. Students.” were safely taken off the bus and back to school within minutes.

“A replacement bus has been dispatched to get the route operational again. Many families decided to pick up their child(ren). …

“VCSC would like to thank Fayette teachers, staff and principal Janel Bonomo, our facilities, transportation and student services teams, and local first responders for their quick responses. We would also like to thank our students and transportation staff who remained calm throughout the entire situation.”
