Jimmy Kimmel admits Biden promised not to pardon Hunter, but ‘there’s a very good chance he doesn’t remember’

Jimmy Kimmel acknowledged in his monologue on Monday that Joe Biden had actually promised very loudly that he would not use his presidential pardon powers to help his son Hunter out of his legal troubles.

“But to be fair, there’s a very good chance he doesn’t remember saying that,” Kimmel joked. (Based on Biden’s age, of course, and the age-related issues he’s clearly had this year.)

But before that joke, Kimmel updated people on the pardon — which you can read about here — and the reaction to it.

“Trump has a lot to be thankful for this year, but no one has more to be thankful for this weekend than Hunter Biden. President Biden yesterday pardoned his son Hunter on federal tax and firearms charges, despite explicitly saying so. “He dropped ‘Pardon’ out of nowhere like it was a Kendrick Lamar album, and it surprised just about everyone,” Kimmel said.

Kimmel then played off some reactions and also joked that “Trump has a few hunters himself,” referring to his sons Don Jr. and Eric.

“Well, I’m not a presidential historian, but I believe – this is the first time a U.S. president has pardoned both his son and a turkey in the same week. Biden released a statement saying the prosecution in Hunter’s case was politically motivated and that his son was being “selectively and unfairly pursued,” Kimmel said.

“In other words, the Biden presidency has now entered the ‘Grandpa doesn’t give a damn what you think’ phase,” he added.

“I wonder if Joe Hunter needs to get something for Christmas now. That’s good enough, right?” Kimmel continued, taking a look at the reaction from the right-wing media, which he said is “so crazy you’d almost think they had a tape of Biden calling Georgia and asks for eleven thousand votes.”

After playing snippets of some particularly ridiculous reactions, Kimmel said, “Everyone who voted to let a 34-time convicted felon off the hook is very angry that Joe Biden let his son off the hook… And I do, for that matter.” , I do that too.” No, I don’t necessarily disagree. The guy committed crimes. But let’s take a walk through reality here.”

“Trump not only pardoned his son-in-law Jared’s father, who went to prison for hiring a hooker to frame his own brother-in-law, but also appointed the same man as U.S. ambassador to France this weekend,” Kimmel explained.

“And yes, Joe Biden said he would not pardon Hunter. But to be fair, there’s a very good chance he doesn’t remember saying that. OK?”

Kimmel mocked Donald Trump for his statement calling on Biden to also “pardon the J-6 hostages who have been imprisoned for years now,” but said, “It would be pretty funny if that were the case!” Right? “I hereby forgive my son Hunter and, what the heck, the Q-Anon shaman.”
