Hannah Kobayashi, the 30-year-old Hawaii woman who disappeared after missing a connecting flight in Los Angeles and sending “alarming” text messages to her family, traveled alone to Mexico, the Los Angeles Police Department said in a news release dated March 2. Conference confirmed in December.

“As the family is aware, yesterday, after traveling to the U.S.-Mexico border, we reviewed U.S. Customs and Border Protection video surveillance that clearly shows Kobayashi crossing the U.S. border on foot into Mexico “Chief Jim McDonnell said in a news conference on Monday.

“She was alone with her luggage and appeared to be uninjured,” McDonnell added.

The LAPD investigation found no evidence “that Kobayashi was trafficked or was the victim of a fall,” McDonnell said, noting that she was a “voluntary missing person.”

Shortly after noon on Nov. 12, Kobayashi crossed the U.S.-Mexico border on foot via the San Ysidro Entry Tunnel leading into Mexico, he said. The LAPD said there was no information that she was working with anyone else.

The LAPD investigation is not continuing in Mexico. “We urge Ms. Kobayashi to contact her family, law enforcement or U.S. Embassy personnel to let us know that you are safe,” McDonnell said, explaining that law enforcement will be notified if she enters the United States returns.

“She has a right to her privacy and we respect her decisions, but we also understand the concern her loved ones feel for her. A simple message could reassure those who care,” McDonnell said.

Investigators learned that before she left Maui, Kobayashi had “expressed a desire to move away from modern connectivity,” McDonnell said, adding that there was “no indication that anything would lead to that,” and he was unsure of Kobayashi’s interpersonal dynamics.

Officer Douglas Oldfield said the investigation examined her social media and found “indications that there were some desires or posts that would be consistent with someone wanting” to disconnect.

Kobayashi went missing on Friday, November 8, after saying in text messages that she was “scared” while in Los Angeles before a scheduled connecting flight to New York City, family member Larie Pidgeon wrote in a November 14 letter shared Facebook post.

According to KGMB/KHNL and FOX affiliate KHON, the family said Kobayashi’s last location was at LAX on November 11th.

Speaking to KGMB/KHNL, Pidgeon said the text messages didn’t sound like they were written in Kobayashi’s voice.

“Her phone rang at LAX at 4 p.m., and after that, (Hannah’s aunt) Geordan kept trying to talk to her and then it went dark,” Pidgeon said. “Her phone was broken and her communication was completely lost.”

Hannah’s sister, Sydni Kobayashi, told the outlet that she also received strange text messages from her sibling.

Oldfield said on Dec. 2 that they “are unable to interpret these communications without Hannah being present to explain how she felt when she sent them and the specific meetings for these communications.” were.”

“She texted her saying she was scared and couldn’t come home or something like that,” Sydni recalled. “They were just really weird lyrics… it doesn’t sound like them, like there’s just something wrong.”

And in another text message Kobayashi sent to a friend after she couldn’t board her connecting flight, she wrote: “I was pretty much tricked into giving away all my money on someone I thought I loved.” said the outlet.

Kobayashi’s mother, Brandi Yee, told KHON that the family “did everything we could do” to find their missing loved one.

“It’s like your sister, your mother, everyone’s worst nightmare, losing your child,” Yee said.

During the search for Hannah, her father Ryan was found dead in a Los Angeles parking lot on Sunday, November 24, after traveling to California to look for his daughter.

According to the LA County coroner, Ryan died by suicide from multiple traumatic blunt force injuries. He was 58.

“I am very sorry to the family for going through this ordeal. We are very sorry for your loss. And I don’t know that words can express the feelings they are going through at this time.” “There is a difficult time. But there are a lot of people who are completely supportive of what they’re going through,” McDonnell said Dec. 2.
