Without its shimmer and sparkle, Pamela Anderson’s personal canvas still radiates shine and light.

In August 2023, Anderson told Elle that her change in appearance was partly due to a heartbreaking loss. After the death of her makeup artist Alexis Vogel in 2019, who lost her battle with breast cancer, Anderson said her appearance softened.

“She was the best,” she said of Vogel. “And since then, I just feel like without Alexis, it’s just better for me to not wear makeup,” she admitted, but also acknowledged that the look she was so famous for was actually done by others people had been curated.

Anderson described the change as “liberating, fun and a little rebellious.”

“Because I noticed that there are all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just my way of going against the grain and doing the opposite of what everyone is doing,” she said. “I think we all look a little weird as we get older. And I kind of laugh at myself when I look in the mirror. I’m like, ‘Wow, this is really… what’s happening to me?’ It’s a journey.

“The 90s were the 90sand now it’s 2023. I don’t know, I like to do things that are different,” she told Entertainment Tonight months later about her transition away from heavy makeup to a more natural look. “This is a new chapter in my life and I don’t know. “For natural beauty we still need two hours in front of the mirror,” she joked.

Shortly afterwards, Anderson appeared in the Victoria Beckham show and doubled down on her reasoning. “The hunt for youth is simply pointless,” she claimed. “You’ll never get there. So why not embrace what’s going on? And since I actually walked out the door as myself, I feel like a relief. Just a burden lifted from my shoulders. And I actually like it better.” I dress for myself now, not for everyone else.
