Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan Have ‘Decided to Take a Break’ (Exclusive)

Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan have gone their separate ways.

A source confirmed to PEOPLE that the two have ended their romantic relationship for now, about a year after they met.

“They are both young and career-focused, so they decided to take a break,” says the insider of Keoghan, 32, and Carpenter, 25.

Reps for both stars did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment on Tuesday, December 3.

Keoghan and Carpenter first sparked romance rumors when they were spotted having dinner together in Los Angeles in early December 2023.

The Oscar-nominated actor and the “Espresso” hitmaker first crossed paths during Paris Fashion Week when both attended a Givenchy show last September.

Since then, they have been seen supporting each other in various endeavors and on social media, with Keoghan regularly leaving sweet comments on Carpenter’s Instagram posts. The Salt burn Star was also in the audience at his then-girlfriend’s Coachella performance last April and even appeared in her “Please Please Please” music video in June.

While chatting with CBS Sunday MorningIn October, Carpenter revealed that she “didn’t even have a biased opinion” when casting the video – although, she admitted, it also helped that Keoghan was sitting right next to her.

“I asked myself, ‘Who is the best actor I can find for this music video?’ And he was sitting in a chair next to me,” Carpenter said. “And he was so excited.”

And the compliments went both ways. After the Recording Academy announced its selections for the 2025 Grammy Awards on November 8, Keoghan expressed how “proud” he was of Carpenter during his performance on “Carpenter.” The Jess Cagle Show.

Reacting to her six nominations – including a Song of the Year award for “Please Please Please” – the Irish actress said: “Brilliant, I know. Absolutely brilliant. Fucking brilliant, boys.”

“No, I’m really happy for her, honestly, and I have to get on the phone soon,” he continued on the SiriusXM show, before teasing the hosts for “embarrassing” him.

After the hosts joked while working on the video that he probably knew Carpenter’s hit song was headed to the Grammys, he said, “Yeah, definitely, definitely.”

“I don’t know anyone who works that hard. “I am in awe of her work and dedication and the standards she sets,” Keoghan added. “Especially in this music video, she knows the vision. She knows what she wants.”
