Bill Maher tells Jane Fonda he may ‘cancel’ the show because of Trump

“Real Time” host Bill Maher said he is considering quitting his political talk show because he can’t stand another Donald Trump presidency.

“I’m ruining my pants. Maybe I’ll quit,” Maher told his guest, actress and activist Jane Fonda, on his “Club Random” podcast on Sunday. “Because I don’t want to do another one (Trump term).”

Maher bragged about warning Trump was a “fraud” before the rest of the left began calling the president-elect a “threat to democracy.”

“I did all the Trump stuff before anyone else,” he continued. “I did it… it bores me.”

Fonda asked Maher if he could focus on something else and not cover Trump instead.

“The show is the politics. There is nothing else!” Maher replied. “And he will dominate the news like he always does.”

Maher and Fonda clashed several times on the podcast because they disagreed about the importance and problems that the far left posed to the Democratic Party.

Maher, who describes himself as an “old school” liberal, discussed regulations in California, gender ideology in schools, racism in America and dealing with climate change with the far-left Fonda.

Fonda, who was arrested for her climate activism, insisted that strict environmental regulations were needed because “we live in a soup of toxic chemicals” and “if we don’t regulate them, we will all die of cancer.”

“That’s true,” Maher said, arguing that many regulations aren’t necessary either.

“You really don’t believe that the state we live in in California lacks regulations. There are over 300,000 regulations,” he said.

“Well, maybe they’re needed,” Fonda replied.

After recounting how he had to undergo three inspections to install a new garage door at his home, Maher complained that California is overregulated and overtaxed and has “no controls on this kind of far left.”

Fonda disagreed, saying she didn’t know California had that reputation.

“I don’t for a minute think of California as a state that’s extreme left. Not at all. Absolutely not,” she said.

The pair continued to fight after Maher called the NAACP “extreme left” for issuing a travel advisory for Black Americans to Florida last year after Gov. Ron DeSantis stopped funding for diversity, equity and inclusion programs at Florida’s public universities had forbidden.

“Stories like that just make people roll their eyes and say, ‘Are you crazy?'” he said, before citing another example of progressives claiming that men can “get pregnant.”

“I understand that a trans woman can get pregnant. This is different than a man becoming pregnant. And the way they insist on blurring that line is because it’s a sensible social thing, not just about having full rights. “Respect and protection for trans people?” he said.

“I’ve never heard of men getting pregnant,” Fonda responded, saying Maher was exaggerating the “tiny” influence the far left has had on culture.

They also argued about their ideas about combating climate change. Fonda warned that Americans must immediately cut all of our emissions in half to prevent an impending climate crisis. She argued that solar and wind energy, not “prospecting, fracking and mining,” are the real solutions to solving this crisis.

But Maher was critical of Fonda’s proposals, saying that radical clean energy measures were unlikely to be passed by lawmakers and that doomsday predictions of the Earth’s near end had already come to pass on several occasions.

After several disagreements over policy issues, Fonda told Maher she didn’t think they had much in common.

“Their worldview is just so completely different than mine,” she said.
