MILAN, Dec 3 (Reuters) – AC Milan beat Serie B club Sassuolo 6-1 at San Siro to reach the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday, where Samuel Chukwueze scored two first-half goals.

Milan will face the winner of the round of 16 between AS Roma and Sampdoria.

The game ended as a battle in the 23rd minute after Chukwueze’s brace and goals from Tijjani Reijnders and Rafael Leao gave Milan a 4-0 lead.

Milan added their fifth goal 11 minutes after the break through Davide Calabria, and after Sassuolo scored a consolation goal through Samuele Mulattieri three minutes later, Tammy Abraham rounded off the victory in the 61st minute.

Chukwueze opened the scoring in the 12th minute when a ball from Reijnders went over the goal line and put him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. After his first shot hit the post, he tapped in the rebound.

Five minutes later, Reijnders fired home a shot from outside the penalty area and Chukwueze scored his second goal in the 21st minute, curling the shot out of the goalkeeper’s reach after a break from Tammy Abraham.

Two minutes later, a pass from Ruben Loftus-Cheek found Leao in the penalty area and he shot powerfully low into the far corner.

Milan coach Paulo Fonseca’s starting XI made eight changes from the team that beat Empoli 3-0 at the weekend, bringing in four substitutes at the start of the second half.

One of those substitutes, Christian Pulisic, sent a cross into the box that bounced off the post and Calabria reacted quickest, converting as the ball came out again.

Mulattieri’s shot fumbled under Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani, also a half-time substitute, and finally gave Sassuolo reason to celebrate, but Abraham completed the defeat, firing his finish past Sassuolo goalkeeper Giacomo Satalino.

Bologna also made it to the quarterfinals with a 4-0 home win against Monza, with goals scored by Tommaso Pobega, Riccardo Orsolini, Benjamin Dominguez and Santiago Castro. They are waiting for the winner between Atalanta and Cesena. (Reporting by Trevor Stynes, Editing by Pritha Sarkar)
