Courtney Lopez plays Nina Meyer, Brian’s childhood friend, who returns to town to visit her grandmother. Soon a connection becomes undeniable as she helps Brian take on a new challenge for the city.

Her real-life son Dominic Lopez also stars in the film as a young aspiring journalist at the local elementary school, Joey Delucca. Joey interviews the town’s mayor, after which Brian finds his fourth grade Christmas list.

Known for their viral dance videos on social media, this family affair wouldn’t be complete without some great dance moves and singing from the Lopez couple.

We were able to sit down with Mario and Courtney on set to find out more about how much fun they had working on this film as a family.

“I really wanted my family to be involved in my first film for Great American Family,” Mario said. “My wife, who is incredibly talented, sings, dances and acts (in this film) beautifully (as does) my son Dominic, who also sings, dances and acts. It was an honor to have her in the film. This is a very special project and it turned out brilliantly. And I’m very proud of her.”

Of course, this isn’t the first time Mario and Courtney have worked together on screen. They host a nationally syndicated radio show called “On” with Mario Lopez, and Courtney is a regular guest host on “Access Daily” and “Access Hollywood” with Mario.

“We are not strangers when we work together, but in this element where we face each other and go on a journey where we fall in love, it is very funny and romantic,” Mario continued. “My wife and I met when we were both performing in a Broadway show. I could see how talented she was in singing, dancing and acting. So, any chance I get to see her perform, I love it. Ironically, she doesn’t do this for me that often, or at least not in the house. So I made sure I wrote it in the movie so people could see it. And she hits the jackpot.”

“Being with him for 16 years and just now having the opportunity to do something like this with him again and be on stage with him, with cameras, is a little different, but it’s very special. Obviously our kids never saw us (on Broadway) before they were born, so they didn’t get to see that side of us, and now they can at least experience a little of our love and our connection behind the cameras. Courtney added.

The Lopez’s acknowledge how special and rare this opportunity was for them, showing that as a family they continue to prioritize their faith.

“Our family has a very strong foundation of faith, and we believe that this is so important from the moment we wake up until the moment we go to bed… I never take for granted everything that God has blessed us with, and he has blessed us with, will continue to bless us. My family, my health, first and foremost. You just can’t take things for granted. And that’s something I constantly instill in my kids because at the end of the day I want them to know what’s important,” Courtney explained.

All three members of the Lopez family made profound memories on the set of their first holiday film together, “Great American Christmas,” that they will never forget.

“It’s something the three of us did together (for the first time) and when I saw our names on the call sheet right under each other, it just brought me pure joy. “It’s just an experience that I will never forget and one that we will remember forever,” Courtney said.
