Gwen Stefani’s new album is a major misfire

For more than a decade, Gwen Stefani has focused more on her solo career than the band that made her a star, No Doubt. This group hasn’t released an album since 2012, but the singer has released a number of songs and a few collections since then. Unfortunately, her latest project, which saw her try something new sonically, fell short of expectations and when it was released, it proved to be a real disappointment.

Stefani’s new album bouquet hits the Billboard charts this week. It only lands at two tallies, and while it’s a big win on one of them, it takes the Superstar to a new low on the other.

bouquet appears on the Billboard 200 at No. 95. This position easily makes the track Stefani’s lowest-charting solo release on Billboard’s ranking of the country’s most consumed albums – and that’s not nearly as good.

Before this week, none of Stefani’s traditional studio albums had managed to crack the top 10 on the Billboard 200 on their own. Their worst-performing track is their only full-length holiday album. You make it feel like Christmas. This upbeat release was released in 2017 and peaked at number 16 on the charts.

bouquet is Stefani’s fourth non-holiday solo album and her first in eight years. Your previous three records, Love.Angel.Music.Baby, The sweet escapeAnd This is what the truth feels likeall spent at least one frame in the highest tier of the Billboard 200. These releases peaked at Nos. 5, 3 and 1, respectively.

Luminate reports that in the first week bouquet moved 12,600 corresponding units between sales and streaming activities. This total includes 11,200 pure purchases, which played a large part in making Stefani’s set an instant hit.

bouquet may disappoint on the Billboard 200, but fares significantly better on the top album sales charts. In this ranking, which deals exclusively with purchases, Stefani starts with her latest album at number 10. She has now made all five of her solo offerings into the top 10, so at least in this list she keeps her track record perfect.

Stefani changed the style for bouquetand swapped their Top 40 pop sound for a more country-oriented format. She may have been influenced by her country star husband Blake Shelton, but also by the fact that the two have had a few hits together in recent years. Unfortunately, not only did their new album fall short of expectations, but none of the songs spawned from the track reached the Hot 100 as singles, which also represents a new low for them considering their non-holiday output.
