Magnitude 5.3 earthquake shakes Telangana’s Mulugu

An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale that struck 40 km underground in the Eturnagaram forest area of ​​Telangana was felt across central and northern India at 7:27 am. The National Center for Seismology identified the location as 185 km north-northeast of Nalgonda and 219 km east of Hyderabad. Many citizens reported feeling the shaking for a few seconds.

Residents in Warangal, Bhadrachalam, Godavarkhani, Khammam, Vijayawada, Bhupalpally, Chandanagar, Nallagandla and other parts of the state reported feeling the earthquake.

While the Indian Seismology Center identified the location in Eturngaram forests, the US Geological Survey monitoring station reported that the quake originated on the banks of the Godavari river at the same location.

The strongest earthquake in the region was recorded on September 30, 1993, with a magnitude of 6.2 on the Richter scale since records began in 1900.

Tremors were felt in Maharashtra

Following the Mulugu earthquake, tremors occurred in Nagpur and Gadchiroli districts of Maharashtra.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and local residents, slight tremors were felt in Nagpur.

According to the district information office, minor tremors also occurred in Gadchiroli, which is close to Telangana.

Mild tremors are generally felt 200 to 300 km from the epicenter of a quake, IMD officials said.
