Telangana earthquake of magnitude 5.3 | Hyderabad News

Magnitude 5.3 earthquake hits Mulugu district in Telangana

NEW DELHI: A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck MuluguTelangana, on Wednesday at 7.27 am, according to the National Center for Seismology.
The epicenter was near Mulugu at a depth of 40 kilometers.

Telangana is classified as Zone II, a low intensity seismic zone. India has four seismic zones, with Zone V having the highest intensity and Zone II having the lowest intensity.

Around 59% of India’s landmass is prone to earthquakes of varying intensity. There are no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Authorities continue to monitor the situation.
There are four seismic zones in India – Zone II, Zone III, Zone IV and Zone V. Zone V is expected to experience the highest seismicity while Zone II is associated with the lowest seismicity. Telangana is grouped in Zone II, Low Intensity Zone.
About 11% of the country falls in Zone V, about 18% in Zone IV, about 30% in Zone III and the rest in Zone II.
