Hillsborough, Citrus Counties to open cold weather shelters

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – Hillsborough County’s cold weather shelter program remains activated Tuesday.

The organizers of the accommodation expect high demand with limited capacity.

The county partners with the following organizations to provide cold weather shelter for adults. The accommodations accept guests on Mondays and Tuesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., unless capacity has already been reached before this time.

  • Church of God of Prophecy Hyde Park – 107 S. Oregon Ave., Tampa, FL 33606
  • Hyde Park United Methodist Church at Portico – 1001 N. Florida Ave., Tampa, FL 33602
  • Tampa Bay Mission of Hope – 212 S. St. Cloud Ave. Building A, Valrico, FL 33594
  • Amazing Love Ministries (Tuesday only) – 3304 E. Columbus Dr., Tampa, FL 33605

All shared accommodation is for adults only. Metropolitan Ministries is making a limited number of single-night motel vouchers available to families with children on a first-come, first-served basis.

MANATEE COUNTY

The Manatee County Emergency Management Department has coordinated with the Salvation Army to open a cold weather shelter at 1204 14th St. W., Bradenton. The doors open on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and there is space for an additional 50 people.

In addition to its daily shelter program (accommodating 60 people overnight), The Salvation Army provides cold weather shelters for homeless people in Manatee County during normal and high temperatures.


They monitor the weather for expected drops in temperature and prepare additional bedding to increase their shelter capacity.

CITRUS COUNTY

The Citrus County cold weather shelter will remain open Tuesday and Wednesday.

It is located at 5113 S. Suncoast Boulevard in Homosassa.
