Truck accident on I-95 in Delaware the day before Thanksgiving – NBC10 Philadelphia

A dump truck crash blocked Interstate 95 and slowed traffic on other roads on the busy pre-Thanksgiving travel day that draws motorists through the First State.

According to DelDOT, the accident occurred around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Route 141 in New Castle County. A dump truck appeared to have lost its bed when it crashed through a guardrail and left the roadway, coming to rest in a wooded area off the highway with its lights still on.

The wreck blocked the following roads (according to DelDOT):

  • I-95 southbound closed at the West Basin Road southbound exit due to crash and debris
  • Route 141 north via I-95
  • Departure from southbound Route 13 to southbound I-295 due to an incident on I-95

It is not yet known whether anyone was injured in the crash.

Wednesday is expected to be one of the busiest travel days of the year as people travel for Thanksgiving.

Traffic was backed up about a mile from the accident site.

NBC10 First Alert Traffic reporter Matt DeLucia said it appeared a truck hit the Route 141 overpass, leaving a path of debris across I-95. At 8:15 a.m., Route 141 was reopened via the highway.

Matt suggested using Routes 2 and 7 and other country roads to get around the scene, but expect slow travel.
