Alison Krauss and Union Station announce first tour in a decade

Long absent from the scene while group members pursued other projects, Alison Krauss & Union Station will reunite in 2025 for a 73-show North American tour and a new album. The tour will mark the group’s first time on the road in 10 years, while the album will be their first new studio album in 14 years.

The roadshow carries the official performance of Alison Krauss & Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas and reflects the fame that lap steel and dobro player Douglas carries alone. Longtime members Ron Block and Barry Bales are also joining the “Arcadia Tour,” with bluegrass star Russell Moore of IIIrd Tyme Out coming on board as a new member on guitar and vocals.

Willie Watson will serve as the tour’s opening act on all but the first three dates.

The hike begins April 17, 2025 in Louisville, Kentucky and ends September 28 in Hollywood, Florida. Notable dates in between include performances at Chicago Theater on June 7, Red Rocks Amphitheater in Colorado on June 18, Greek Theater in LA on July 13, Massey Hall in Toronto on August 19, Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville on August 22nd and at the Met in Philadelphia on September 13th. 10, New York City’s Beacon on September 12th and Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion on September 17th. All visits are one-night stands, except for two nights at the Tennessee Theater in Knoxville on August 23 and 24. (Scroll down for a full itinerary.)

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday. Pre-sales begin on Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time and end on Thursday at 10 p.m. local time. You can find pre-sale access here.

Most recently, Krauss toured as a duo with Robert Plant, following their second album together, 2021’s “Raise the Roof.” The Plant/Krauss group performed in amphitheaters across the country during the summers of 2022 to 2024. Krauss previously toured extensively as a solo artist in the late 2010s.

“I am so grateful to be able to make music again with my comrades of 40 years,” Krauss said in a statement. “They have always done incredible work individually and are therefore constantly traveling. We are very inspired to experience this new exciting chapter in the band’s history.”

No information was given about the upcoming album in the announcement, other than that it will be released in 2025. It will be the group’s first album together since the release of Paper Airplane in 2011.

The announcement indicates that Russell Moore will fill a spot vacated by Dan Tyminski, who joined the group in the early 1990s but is not taking part in the upcoming tour. Tyminski has developed a successful solo career of his own.

Moore brings a lot of kindness. As the frontman of IIIrd Tyme Out, he is a six-time winner of the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Male Vocalist Award. His group has been recognized as Vocal Group of the Year by the organization seven times.

“To say that I’m looking forward to recording and touring with Alison Krauss and Union Station would be a massive understatement,” Moore said in a statement. “After playing music full-time for 40 years and leading my own group for 34 years, this opportunity is one of the few at the top of the list that my music career has afforded me. My hopes and desires are to fill this position at AKUS with the same professionalism, precision and consideration as other members who have held this position before me and I look forward to the ‘ride’.”

Alison Krauss & Union Station’s career dates back to 1989, when the ensemble released its debut album – albeit with a completely different line-up than Krauss, although Douglas was a guest musician with Dobro on the early albums. Block and Bales joined forces in 1992 when the group released their third album.
