QUACKKKKK – Oregon knocks off 5-star DB from Ohio State

There was a nice surprise from Dan Lanning and his staff just moments ago as the Ducks look for a strong finish to National Signing Day. And there’s nothing better than adding five stars to your squad.

After a lengthy recruitment this fall, Parker (Ala.) is a cornerback Na’eem Offord has announced his decision to transfer to Oregon. Offord has been committed to Ohio State since early February. He’s been thinking about Oregon and Auburn for most of the fall, including trips there. And at various points you could make strong arguments for all three schools.

The 6-foot-3, 181-pound player is a truly elite cornerback. He is the No. 12 player nationally and the No. 3 cornerback in the On3 industry rankings.

There is no doubt that this is a huge win for Dan Lanning and his recruiting staff. Offord joins an elite secondary group for Oregon that includes 5-Star Trey McNutt and 4 stars Brandon Finney And Dorian Brew.

The Ducks now have 19 verbal commitments in the 2025 class. Offord is the Ducks’ third five-star commitment in this class.

Scouting report:

Twitch, coordinated, physical three-phase playmaker who is considered one of the top defensive back prospects in the 2025 cycle. Checked into the On3 Elite Series before his senior season at 6-foot-1, 181 pounds with 3-foot arms. Registered as one of the top athletes in the spring camp circuit prior to his junior season. A three-phase playmaker on Friday night, playing cornerback, returner and offense as a receiver and ball carrier. Shows instincts and ball skills on corners. Effective at releasing and skipping passes to make plays on the ball. Very loose in the lower body, resulting in high level changes of direction. Excellent ball tracker as a defensive back, showing the ability to locate the football over his shoulder. Finishes quickly as a tackler on flat land. Arguably the most physical top cornerback prospect in the 2025 cycle, driving through ball carriers upon contact. Has a playmaking element to his game that can be considered a punt returner, recovering multiple punts for touchdowns as a junior. Has excellent balance with the ball in his hands. Had a strong junior season, collecting five passes and scoring 12 total touchdowns, scoring in five different ways. The speed is good, but not elite at the position, so he needs to continue improving his top equipment. As a junior, he achieved a time of 11.09 seconds in the 100 meters and a time of 21.97 seconds in the 200 meters. Pure football player who should continue to improve by focusing more on working as a defensive back.
