FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas will open the SEC/ACC Challenge in Miami on Tuesday (December 3). The game is one of 10 Challenge games played on Tuesday and one of four games beginning at 6:00 p.m. CT. The Razorback-Hurricane game will be televised on ESPN2.

Last year, Arkansas defeated #7 Duke 80-75 at Bud Walton Arena in the inaugural SEC/ACC Challenge. The game had the largest attendance in Bud Walton Arena history (20,344) and was played on the 30th anniversary of the first game at the facility. Arkansas got a double-double from Trevon Brazile. Brazile hit four 3-pointers, including a key triple, to put the Hogs ahead by 12 points with 2:16 left. He finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, his third double-double of the season and the third of his last four games.

For the second straight year, John Calipari will face Miami in the SEC/ACC Challenge. Last year, Coach Cal led No. 12 Kentucky 95-73 against No. 8 Miami (95-73) at Rupp Arena. Adou Thiero scored nine points (4 of 5 FG) and six rebounds in 28 minutes. DJ Wagner started and scored five points in 10 minutes before exiting the game in the first half with an ankle injury.

Arkansas will return home to host UTSA at Bud Walton Arena on Saturday (Dec. 7). Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.

NOTES:

  • Arkansas and Miami have only met once. Miami won 75-71. It was the first round of the 2000 NCAA Championship and the game was played at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville (now Bridgestone Arena). For most of the game, Miami coasted to a double-digit lead against Arkansas. Then, in the last 60 seconds, it almost evaporated. Arkansas went on a 10-0 run to close within three games before the Hurricanes put the game away and advanced to the second round. Johnny Hemsley led UM with 20 points. John Salmons added 16 points. Teddy Gipson led the Hogs with 14 points, while Joe Johnson had 13 points and five rebounds.
  • Razorback head coach John Calipari is 1-1 all-time against the Hurricanes. The previous two meetings took place during his time at Kentucky and were both played at Rupp Arena. In his first year in Great Britain (December 6, 2008) he lost the first meeting 73:67. He won the second meeting of the SEC/ACC Challenge last year 95-73.
  • Adou Thiero has at least one steal in all seven games and 20 total this season. Thiero ranks 11th in the NCAA and 1st in the NCAA in steals (2.86 average). In a three-game span, he had 14, including a career-high 4 steals against Pacific, 6 steals against Little Rock and 4 against UMES. He also ranks 2nd in the SEC in FG% (.632) and 3rd in the SEC in scoring (19.1).
