With our Premier League trip to Southampton coming up next, the Blues have been hard at work in Cobham today putting the finishing touches to our preparations for the game.

Our second Premier League game in four days and first in midweek this season takes us to the south coast to play a Southampton side who are currently top of the table.

However, at his pre-training media conference, Enzo Maresca warned against complacency and described the game as our toughest game so far this season.

Maresca said: “This is the worst game for us since the start of the season. “The toughest game and we have to be ready otherwise it will be a bad day for us.

“If you analyze the results, they are there (at the bottom of the table), but in terms of performances they are very good.” They were ahead against Liverpool, only lost 1-0 to Manchester City and won in the last game Brighton a draw.

“I was in the Championship with Southampton last season and I know how good they are. “They are very brave, they want to keep the ball and this will certainly be a very difficult game for us and we have to be ready.”

Maresca needs to make at least one change to his starting XI after Wesley Fofana sustained an injury in the impressive 3-0 win over Aston Villa that marked the start of our busy September.

The head coach has several options that could replace the Frenchman at the heart of our defense, including Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi.

β€œIt depends a bit on the game plan,” Maresca said today.

“Benoit could be one of the solutions, but we have Tosin and Axel, different players who can play there.” Certainly it is a big loss because Wes has performed fantastically in every game, but we have to accept and find other solutions .”

Whoever comes in will be determined to play their part in maintaining the Blues’ positive momentum and achieving three league wins in a row.
