Ruben Amorim reaction – How did the Man United boss react to the defeat at Arsenal?

Ruben Amorim’s first trip to Arsenal as Premier League manager ended in his first Premier League defeat Arsenal lost to Manchester United 2-0 on Wednesday at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal continue to dominate the corners and Amorim will certainly rework his set-piece defense after conceding two goals from corners.

“The difference today was the set pieces,” said Amorim. “You can see the goal and how the dynamics have changed. We could have taken full control of the game. We tried, but it was the set pieces.”

Amorim had overseen a draw at Ipswich Town before victories over Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League and Everton in the Premier League took him to north London. Now he has a loss on his balance sheet.

It’s no surprise that Amorim cited set-piece defense as one of the most important things his team needs to improve, but he also pointed out that minute limits on Mason Mount, Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro limit his decisions before and during the game.

United looked good early on, but after half-time Arsenal’s experience prevailed. Amorim has spoken a lot about how much work there is still to do to fix the Red Devils and on Wednesday it was laid bare.

How did he see it?

Ruben Amorim reaction – What did the Man United boss say after defeat at Arsenal?

This is what Ruben Amorim said after the 0-2 defeat.

“Tough game. We tried to play our game, especially in the first half. We need more training. The standard situations change everything, change the dynamic. It was really hard for her. We tried, but we had two set pieces and didn’t score. You scored a goal.”

On Arsenal’s corner kick skills: “We have to understand that they have been doing this for years. Even being here for so long, you can see how their set pieces can change that. We tried to defend them within two days of training.”

At the moment, Matthijs de Ligt hit the crossbar “It could be different if (De Ligt) scores. Also Antony with the free kick, but it is what it is. We will try to do it in the next games.”

What he learned about his players today: “I learned that we are smart when we have the strategy. We find the way to press and the way to block. We will be better with time.”

“We have to improve every minute. We have to use every minute to try to improve and fight for the games.”
