Despite some good surprises on signing day, there was some bad news for Florida State as the Seminoles’ top-rated committed prospect, offensive guard Solomon Thomas, decommitted to LSU.

Thomas, who committed to FSU in December 2023, remained loyal to the Seminoles throughout the 2024 season despite the results on the field. The worst came when Florida State decided to fire offensive line coach Alex Atkins, a move Thomas made publicly on Twitter to express his disappointment.

In the final weeks of the season, rumors swirled that in-state rival Florida would be the favorite to bring Thomas into the class. The weekend after Atkins was fired, Thomas took an unofficial visit to Florida. The following weekend, Thomas took an unofficial visit to LSU.

As signing day approached, sources indicated that it was between LSU and Florida State on signing day when the Gators dropped out of the race. Thomas flipped his commitment to the Tigers over Florida State.

With the loss of Thomas, FSU’s 2025 class fell from 22nd to 29th in the Rivals class rankings. Still, the day was overall positive for the Seminoles, who entered Wednesday morning ranked No. 49 in the Rivals Class rankings.
