Additional NIPSCO energy assistance programs are available to income-eligible customers during the winter

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (NIPSCO) says that starting December 1, additional energy assistance programs are open for enrollment for income-eligible customers struggling to pay their gas bills.

These programs include NIPSCO Hardship, SERV (Supply Energy Resources to Veterans) and SILVER (Seniors in Indiana Low-Income and Vulnerable Energy Resources).

NIPSCO says customers who use natural gas to heat their homes and businesses typically increase their usage in the winter compared to other times of the year as the weather gets colder. Consumption makes up the majority of the average energy bill.

Eligible customers may apply until May 31, 2025 or until funds are exhausted.

The programs provide a one-time benefit of up to $400 per year to cover NIPSCO residential gas bills.

“We understand the challenges many of our customers face, particularly as temperatures drop and use of gas heating increases,” said Vince Parisi, president and chief operating officer of NIPSCO. “Our assistance programs are designed to support our most vulnerable customers and ensure they stay safe and warm this winter season.”
