Walmart confirms all 4,606 stores will close full time next week — and Target won’t be any help

WALMART shoppers need to find an alternative for their holiday shopping because this week over 4,000 shops will be closed for 24 hours.

The retailer is continuing the four-year tradition that began during the pandemic.

Over 4,600 stores will be closed this Thursday for Thanksgiving.

This year’s holiday falls on November 29th and marks the fifth consecutive year that Walmart has decided to close its doors for 24 hours.

A NEW TRADITION

Normally, Walmart was always open on Thanksgiving, but since the pandemic hit in 2020, bosses have given workers the entire day off to celebrate the holiday with their families.

John Furner, the CEO of Walmart, explained that the decision to break with this tradition was prompted by a suggestion from a Walmart worker in Texas.

“We want you to enjoy the day at home with your loved ones,” Furner said in an interview for USA Today.

The company experienced overwhelming support for the Thanksgiving closure from both store employees and shoppers.

But don’t worry, shops will only be closed for the full 24 hours on Thursday.

It will reopen the next day in time for you to shop Black Friday deals.

CHAIN CLASPS

Unfortunately, that’s bad news for anyone looking to avoid Target’s store closures.

Target will also close its doors on Thanksgiving but reopen early on Black Friday.

This year, many retailers are following suit and offering employees a day off.

Other chains, including Costco, Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s, will also remain closed for Thanksgiving and reopen Friday.

SHOPPER ALTERNATIVES

If you’re looking for a place to shop this Thanksgiving, whether it’s last-minute groceries for the holiday or gifts to shower your loved ones with, there are still some places to shop.

Many Kroger stores will be open on Thanksgiving, but many will have reduced hours.

Whole Foods will also be open with reduced hours if you need takeout.

However, like Kroger, hours vary depending on the store’s location.
