The snow forecast for Thursday morning is increasing in Rhode Island, Massachusetts

Thursday morning’s storm trended colder overnight, resulting in increased snowfall across inland Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts!

A westerly wind combined with increased rainfall has led to dynamic cooling, where a storm can “generate its own cold,” so to speak. As a result, there is snow on the roads in the Providence Metro and I-95 corridor.

Storm Team 10 has increased the snowfall forecast to a slushy layer of up to 2 inches across Providence County and northern Bristol County, Massachusetts, along and west of I-95.

Be careful when driving this morning, there will be slippery areas. Allow extra time to stay under the speed limit to get to your destination safely.

The snowfall will likely last until 8 or 9 a.m., then it may briefly switch back to rain before it stops.

We need to watch for possible snow squalls during the midday and afternoon periods as a cold front sweeps across the region. Any snow squalls could briefly cause visibility to drop to almost zero and create additional snow cover.

The rainfall will stop late today and it will be significantly colder on Friday and Saturday nights. Highs heading into the weekend will only reach the low to mid 30s, with lows in the upper teens and lower 20s! Bundle up and stay warm!
