The storm could bring up to 6 inches of snow to parts of Massachusetts

A midweek storm could produce up to half a foot of snowfall in parts of Massachusetts, a newly adjusted snow map from the Boston 25 Weather team shows.

Winter is approaching: cold before the storm

Cool weather and bright conditions are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, but clouds will form on Wednesday ahead of our next storm.

Meteorologist Shiri Spear said in her latest forecast that precipitation would fill with coastal rain and inland snow late Wednesday evening, lasting into Thursday morning.

“The majority of our rain and snow will fall overnight into Thursday morning,” Spear said. “Things become more inconsistent during the afternoon hours. What we are left with is the potential for snow and rain squalls into the afternoon.”

Up to 3 inches of snow is expected north and west of Route 128/Interstate 95. The highest amounts of snow will be at elevations northwest of Worcester and locations in western Massachusetts, where 6 inches of snow is possible.

“A rain-snow line is between 95 and 495, so north and west of that you have the best chance of higher totals,” Spear said.

Coastal communities will experience snow and rain, but this is unlikely to continue as temperatures are expected to remain above freezing. There is a possibility of grass cover east of 128 to Boston.

Mostly light rain is expected in southeastern Massachusetts.

Anyone on the way to work or school should be prepared for weather-related declines.

Thursday night into Friday will be dry, but the weather will be windy with gusts of 30-40 mph.

The weekend looks to be cold, dry and partly sunny.
