Drinking Song tops Minneapolis’ Spotify Wrapped list for 2024

Minneapolis Spotify users love drinking songs and tender male strummers. At least that’s what you might infer when you see the list of the city’s top songs in the newly released Spotify Wrapped rankings.

Among the city-specific lists in the streaming app’s annual review, Minneapolis listeners closely followed the national lists for both top artists and albums, with Taylor Swift, Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen each ranking at the top with their respective records. However, Minneapolis’ song list is a little different from the rest of the United States.

Two artists who have never played venues larger than clubs in the Twin Cities, Shaboozey and Benson Boone, took the top spots on the Minneapolis song list with their tracks “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and “Beautiful Things.” Each of them ranked higher on the local list than on the national list. The songs are also quite different from each other.

As the title and artist name make all too obvious, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is a raucous drinking anthem from Nashville-based country/hip-hop hybrid singer Shaboozey, who filled First Avenue in September . “Beautiful Things,” on the other hand, is a stirring folk-rock ballad from 22-year-old Washington native Boone. Its melody provides the framework for the three other emotional, heartbreaking, semi-twangy songs that made the Minneapolis list.

Spotify has not broken down its geographic Wrapped listings for St. Paul or any other city in Minnesota, nor for the state as a whole. It’s likely the drinking song would have won this one too.

Here’s the full rundown of Minneapolis’ Spotify Wrapped rankings.

1. “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Shaboozey

2. “Beautiful Things,” Benson Boone
