Summary: Beadle’s buzzer-beater lifts Boston College past Boise State for the Cayman Islands Classic Championship

On Tuesday night, the Boston College men’s basketball team faced the Boise State Broncos for the Cayman Islands Classic championship. Both teams had survived the semi-finals with very narrow victories and were looking to take home the trophy this evening after some drama in the final stages. But it was Boston College that emerged victorious in this game, winning in dramatic fashion, 63-61.

The game was back and forth throughout, with BC and BSU changing the lead several times throughout the game. However, the Broncos controlled the score for several long stretches, including midway through the second half when BC could only muster five points in five minutes of play. However, the late momentum came soon after when Joshua Beadle and Roger McFarlane’s series of shots put BC back in the lead with just five minutes to play.

In the final minutes, Chad Venning hit a free throw at the line, giving BC its largest lead of the game, 5 points. This was followed by an impressive defensive possession from Roger McFarlane, who did an excellent job of switching to multiple ball handlers and forcing a contested three-pointer. But Boise would not be silenced as Boston College committed some untimely fouls that allowed the Broncos to continue to claw their way up the scoreboard while BC missed a number of free throws of their own. Those BSU free throws gave them a one-point lead with 12 seconds left. BC made a play for Joshua Beadle in the corner to end the game and he hit the tough fadeaway three-pointer to give BC a 2 point lead! Boise failed on the ensuing buzzer-beater attempt and Boston College emerged victorious with a 63-61 victory in the Cayman Islands Classic. Here is the highlight:
