The 2024 AHSAA Super 7 High School Football Championships continue today with three more title games.

To open the day, Mars Hill takes on Houston Academy in the 3A title game. Maplesville and Wadley meet for the 1A crown at 3 p.m. Montgomery Catholic and Moody will finish the day in the 5A championship game at 7 p.m

2:48 p.m., The Matchup: The Red Devils are seeking their fifth state title and first since 2016. Wadley’s only championship was a mythical title in 1960.

FINAL RESULTS: CLASS 3A, Mars Hill 50, Houston Academy 43

2:03 p.m., MVP: Hudson Higgins wins the MVP. He passed for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns on 23 carries. Caden Chandler gained 172 yards and scored 2 touchdowns on 23 carries. The Panthers finished the game with 445 yards rushing and 49 carries.

1:55 p.m., That should actually be enough: HA PAT is good, cutting the lead to 50-43, but Mars Hill covers the onsides kick with 52 seconds left in the game.

1:51 p.m., Magic Man: HA QB Kadyn Mitchell was magical today. He hits Whit Price with a 30-yard TD pass with 52 seconds left, cutting Mars Hill’s lead to 50-42 by the PAT. Mitchell is 19 of 25 for 388 yards and 4 touchdowns today.

1:45 p.m., That should be enough: Caden Chandler’s 29-yard TD run gave Mars Hill a 50-36 lead with 1:49 left. Chandler and Hudson Higgins combined for 372 yards rushing today.

1:42 p.m., First Down: Hudson Higgins gains 4 and a first down.

1:39 p.m., decisive game: Mars Hill is in fourth place with 2:41 minutes left in the HA 41 and leads 43:36. Time-out.

1:34 p.m., Not finished yet: HA moves 64 yards in 5 plays. Kadyn Mitchell hits Riggs Hickey with a 39-yard TD pass. The Raiders cut Mars Hill’s lead to 43-36 with 4:47 to play. Mars Hill recovers from an onside kick.

1:26 p.m., defensive result: Tanner Caudle recovers a fumble from Houston Academy’s Andrew Gill. Cam Isbell picks it up and returns it 40 yards for a Mars Hill score. Will that be enough? Mars Hill leads 43-29 with 5:59 minutes to play.

1:22 p.m., bootleg: Mars Hill QB William Mann turns a bootleg into a 75-yard touchdown run. Another 80-yard drive for the Panthers. Mars Hill leads 36-29 with 6:26 to play. The TD came two plays after Houston Academy thought it could have recovered a mistake to take the lead.

1:20 p.m., vice versa: Replay Rules: The Mars Hill player was on the ground before the fumble. Looks like a good call. Second and 10 for the Panthers, still tied 29-29.

1:17 p.m., fumble? Houston Academy appears to score the go-ahead touchdown on a fumble return with 7:22 left. The piece is currently being reviewed.

1:15 p.m., draw again: Andrew Gill caps a seven-play, 64-yard drive by Houston Academy with a 1-yard run. With 7:31 minutes left it was 29:29 again.

1:09 p.m., change of leadership: Mars Hill moved 80 yards in 10 plays to take the lead. Hudson Higgins scores on a 7-yard run for a 29-22 lead with 10:26 to play. It was the Panthers’ third 80-yard drive today.

1:01 p.m., end 3: We have a good one. Houston Academy and Mars Hill tied 22-22.

12:56 p.m., Not good: Houston Academy misses a 28-yard FG into the wind. The game was still tied 22-22 with 2:17 left in the third period.

12:47 p.m., draw: Mars Hill moved 80 yards in nine plays to tie the game. Hudson Higgins scores with a 6-yard run and Caden Chandler levels the score with the two-point conversion. The score is 22-22 with 6:28 minutes left in the third period. Higgins rushed for 144 yards and 2 TDs on 15 carries. Chandler has 117 and one TD on 14 runs.

12:38 p.m., quick hit: Houston Academy needs two games to extend its lead. Kadyn Mitchell hits Gabe Glover with a 62-yard TD pass. The Raiders lead 22-14 with 11:04 left in the third. Mitchell is 7 of 8 for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns.

12:36 p.m., Back in action: We’re in the second half. Houston Academy with the ball to win the third quarter.

12:11 p.m., half time: Houston Academy leads Mars Hill 14-12 at halftime.

Caden Chandler had 11 carries for 91 yards and a score for Mars Hill, while Hudson Higgins had 90 yards and a score on nine attempts.

Raiders quarterback Kadyn Mitchell completed six of his seven passes for 129 yards and a touchdown and ran the ball nine times for 40 yards.

Both teams have exactly 222 yards of total offense at halftime.

12:07 p.m., field goal: Nathan Selig Pineda hits a 34-yard field goal to give Houston Academy a 15-14 lead over Mars Hill with two seconds left before halftime.

11:51 a.m., Panthers take the lead: Mars Hill recovers from an early 12-0 deficit after a 12-yard run by Hudson Higgins makes it a 14-12 game with 4:53 left in the first half.

The drive was highlighted by a one-handed 32-yard catch by Tanner Caudle that set up the touchdown run.

11:42 a.m., Mars Hill scores: Caden Chandler runs the ball into the goal from two meters away, giving the Panthers their first goal of the game. Houston Academy leads 12-7 with 8:44 left in the first half.

11:34 a.m., One down: Houston Academy ends the first quarter of the Class 3A state championship game with a 12-0 lead over Mars Hill.

11:31 a.m., A long touchdown: Kadyn Mitchell completes a pass to Gabe Glover, who takes it 69 yards for a touchdown, extending Houston Academy’s lead; The 2-point attempt is of no use.

The Raiders lead Mars Hill 12-0 with 28 seconds left in the first quarter.

11:28 a.m., Another turnover: Mars Hill running back Hudson Higgins takes a ball 20 yards, with the game ending in a fumble forced by Houston Academy’s Gabe Glover and recovered by Houston Lee.

Raiders take over on their own 42nd.

11:21 a.m., First result of the day: Andrew Gil runs from one yard out to cap a 98-yard drive by Houston Academy and give the Raiders a 6-0 lead with 3:55 left in the first quarter.

The extra point wasn’t good.

11:12 a.m., interception: Houston Academy defensive lineman Riggs Hickey grabs an interception to end a strong opening drive by the Mars Hill offense. The Raiders will have the ball on their own 2-yard line with the game tied 0-0.

11:01 a.m., entering the field: Mars Hill and Houston Academy take the field before the Class 3A state title game. Mars Hill will get the ball first.

10:52 a.m., Honoring a Friend: The Houston Academy tour group will carry a tribute to injured sophomore Martin Andre. The Raiders will soon face Mars Hill.
