Bournemouth 1-0 Tottenham Dean Huijsen’s header gives the Cherries victory

Defender Dean Huijsen scored the only goal as Bournemouth beat Tottenham and climbed above them in the Premier League table.

The 19-year-old remained unmolested at the back post and headed the ball into the goal after a corner from Marcus Tavernier in the 17th minute.

Huijsen’s goal extended Spurs’ poor record of dealing with set pieces and caused coach Ange Postecoglou to shake his head ruefully on the touchline.

Postecoglou’s side got off to a good start, with Dominic Solanke playing a prominent role as he returned to the Vitality Stadium following his £65million move in the summer.

Solanke, who was greeted with a few boos, had two of the first three shots for Spurs, but after Huijsen’s goal they went wide and Tavernier and Evanilson had chances to extend the lead in the first half.

Spurs regrouped after the break and pushed for an equalizer, bringing on captain Son Heung-min for Pape Matar Sarr, which led to chances for James Maddison, Pedro Porro and Dejan Kulusevski.

But the north Londoners conceded more chances than they created in the closing stages and an Evanilson goal was ruled out for offside.

Spurs’ problems worsened when Ben Davies left the field with an apparent thigh problem, leaving Postecoglou with only one fit centre-back ahead of Sunday’s derby against Chelsea.
