Fox News’ Sean Hannity says he’s “excited” to host FOX Nation’s sixth annual Patriot Awards, promising it will be a “very special evening” for attendees and viewers.

“What I love about it is that unlike, say, the Oscars, the Grammys or the Tonys, it honors the men and women who truly make the country great every day, unsung heroes and true patriots. They never get recognition,” Hannity told Fox News Digital on the eve of the awards ceremony.

“And I think that’s what’s so special about it. And there are so many great patriots in the country who deserve recognition. It’s an honor to be a part of it.”

Hannity called this year’s honorees “an eclectic mix of people” who deserve recognition. Among them is President-elect Donald Trump, who Hannity previously announced will receive the Patriot of the Year award.

“When you really think about everything he went through — he didn’t have to run for president again … Think about what he put at risk,” Hannity said. “I mean, despite all the efforts of his political enemies, they wanted to put this guy in prison… He was an inch away from losing his life. And what did he do? He stood up and said, ‘Fight, fight.’ , battle.’ I mean, pretty remarkable bravery under fire in my opinion.

“And that’s why I think he’s extremely deserving. And I just think that the fact that he can participate is a great honor for us, for the Patriot Awards and for all the other honorees. I’m sure they’ll be happy to see him and get to know him. And it’s exciting for everyone.

Hannity recalled that he believes the 2016 election and last month were about “the forgotten men and women in this country,” people he believes the Patriot Awards are honoring.

“These are not people you write about. They are unsung heroes, their generosity, their commitment, they are true patriots,” Hannity said. “They never get any awards. They don’t get any recognition. And if we make every effort to highlight them and let the president take part in them, that is something very special. But highlighting them and acknowledging them, I think it’s just about recognizing what really makes the country special and great.”

He continued: “We are the most generous people on this earth. And people give away their time. They donate to charities. They do heroic and patriotic things that are inspiring. And take time out of a special evening to give them something. “The attention they wouldn’t otherwise get makes it extra special, in my opinion.”
