McDonald’s is bringing back fan-favorite menu item after E. coli scare

McDonald’s Snack Wrap is officially making a comeback.

In a new interview with “Good Morning America,” McDonald’s USA president Joe Erlinger confirmed that the once-discontinued cult favorite will return to the menu in 2025.

“The snack wrap will be available again in 2025,” said Erlinger. “It has cult status. I get so many emails about this product in my inbox. It will happen again in 2025.”

“It has a cult following. It really is,” he added.

However, Erlinger said he couldn’t provide an “exact” return date for the snack wrap for “competitive reasons.”

The Snack Wrap was discontinued in 2016 for a variety of reasons: it was difficult and time-consuming to put together, sales were not as good as hoped, and the all-day breakfast was cheaper.

The popular meal consists of chicken, lettuce, shredded cheese and sauce wrapped in a warm tortilla.

Erlinger’s announcement comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention declared an end to the deadly E. coli outbreak linked to onion slivers served on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder burgers.

“We let people down. “I would like to apologize to all of our customers who were harmed by this incident,” Erlinger said in the “GMA” interview on Thursday.

The outbreak killed one person and infected 104 people in 14 states, according to the CDC.

At least 34 people were hospitalized and at least four developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a rare but serious disease that can lead to kidney failure, according to the agency.

“We stopped using the supplier facility they came from and we stopped sourcing onions from the farm,” Erlinger added. “The CDC and FDA announcement earlier this week gave us the all-clear. The investigation is complete, but the job at McDonald’s is not done.”

“Food safety remains our top priority,” he said. “We need to continue to restore consumer confidence – we need to work on that, it will continue.”
