Belichick would replace another legend in Mack Brown, who holds a 288-155-1 record at UNC, Texas, Tulane and Appalachian State.

Belichick and the New England Patriots parted ways after the 2023 season, which was Belichick’s 24th season with the team. There he won six Super Bowls and another pair with the New York Giants as defensive coordinator.

UNC announced that Brown would be leaving the program before its final regular-season game against NC State, a matchup that featured a scuffle following a Wolf Pack flag-planting incident on Saturday.
