December 5 Tsunami Warning CANCELED; Evacuation order lifted

Tsunami warning lifted: At 11:55 a.m. on December 5, the tsunami warning was lifted for coastal areas of California and Oregon. Evacuation orders for West Berkeley have been lifted. It is safe to return to the area. View Berkeley’s real-time emergency map.

We have issued an evacuation order due to a tsunami in West Berkeley.

People in the tsunami zone are in IMMEDIATE DANGER and MUST be evacuated NOW. Stay east of 7th St. This is a lawful order to leave now.

  • West Frontage Rd
  • Highway I80
  • Water park
  • Harrison, Gilman, Camelia and Page, west of 5th St
  • Jones, Cedar, Virginia and Delaware, west of 6th St
  • Hearst, west of 5th St
  • University and Addison, west of 4th St
  • All areas west of 3rd St
  • Potter and Folger, west of 7th St

Tsunami arrival time: 12:10 p.m. in San Francisco Bay

GO NOW. DON’T WAIT:

  • DO NOT remain on boats or docks.
  • Bring everyone and pets with you.
  • Only bring essential items and medications with you.
  • Lock your doors when you leave.
  • TAKE A VEHICLE. This will help keep the roads open for emergency responders.
  • Be prepared to leave the premises if roads become blocked.

To escape the tsunami zone:

  • Go east. Stay east of 7th St.
  • If you get caught in a trap, call 9-1-1.
