The First Alert Weather Day continues through Friday morning, bringing dangerous wind chills

The worst of the wind is behind us, but it will remain windy until Friday. This will bring wind chills into the single digits and into the teens early Friday morning.

Protect people, pets and pipes

The cold air will set in Thursday night into Friday. Temperatures drop well below freezing and there is a risk of freezing pipes exposed to extreme cold for long periods of time.

Dangerous wind chill Friday morning

Gusty winds will create dangerously low wind chills early Friday morning. The perceived temperatures can drop into the tens or even single digits. Therefore, make sure you are well dressed before setting off.

Afternoon highs in most hometowns only reach the 30s, even with plenty of sunshine.

Whether you’re heading out for the holidays or the high school football playoffs, you’ll want to dress in lots of layers and prepare for what will feel like temperatures in the teens and 20s at night.

Warming up this weekend

If you’ve been hesitant, this is the weekend for holiday decorating. On Saturday temperatures will slowly begin to rise, reaching highs of over 40 degrees. Sunday will feel warm as southerly winds reach highs of over 50° under partly sunny skies.

First warning: weather patterns next week

We expect an active weather pattern next week with greater chances of rain on both Monday and Wednesday. Both the American and European models (below) suggest that much-needed widespread rainfall could be expected, but they differ in placement and amount. We’ll know more the closer we get.

The rain comes at a time when large parts of the region are again suffering from moderate drought and have not had their first significant rainfall since mid-November.
