Mark Howard was a high-functioning adult with Down syndrome who had a job, officials say.

Investigator Macdonough reports that when officers arrived, they discovered Mark Howard was missing. Michael told officers that the “horrific shooting” occurred on December 1, and that he placed Mark’s body on the front loading bucket of a backhoe and carried it to a remote area a mile away where there was already a pile of wood with other materials been set up.

The lawyer told officers he “cremated” his son because that was “what he would have wanted,” JP MacDonough said.

Sabine County and Texas Rangers officers executed a search warrant and found charred body parts and bones. The body parts were taken to the medical examiner’s office.
