Mettmann district. The German Weather Service has issued an official warning of continuous rain for the cities in the Mettmann district.

*Update*: An official warning from the German Weather Service of squalls is in effect until 5 p.m. on Friday. Wind speeds of between 55 and 65 kilometers per hour will be reached; in exposed locations, gusts of up to 80 km/h should be expected, it said. The DWD points out dangers such as falling branches. Free-standing objects should be secured.

A low spur crosses North Rhine-Westphalia from the west on Thursday and brings mild sea air with an increasingly strong western current, the meteorologists explain. “A cold front will reach the region on Friday night,” it said.

As the day progresses, increasingly heavy rain will occur, sometimes lasting until Friday afternoon. In the traffic jams in the mountains, and with less probability in isolated cases on the Lower Rhine, continuous rain with amounts of 30 to 40 l/sqm, in some cases up to 45 l/sqm in 12-24 hours is likely. On Friday morning, individual thunderstorms with stormy gusts of around 70 km/h are unlikely in the west, according to the weather experts.

In view of the expected weather conditions for the cities in the Mettmann district, the German Weather Service has issued an official warning of continuous rain, which is valid from 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 5th, and until Friday, December 6th, around 2 p.m. Regionally, meteorologists expect precipitation amounts of between 30 and 45 l/m².

The DWD therefore warns of the danger of isolated flooding of streets or underpasses. You should adapt your behavior in traffic and avoid flooded sections.

The wind is already picking up. From Thursday evening, another official warning will apply to the Mettmann district, starting at 10 p.m.: Wind gusts with speeds of up to 60 km/h can occur until 6 a.m. on Friday morning; in exposed locations, gusts of up to 70 km/h are possible.
