The Warriors extend their dominance over the Rockets to 15 games

Jonathan Kuminga scored a career-high 33 points, Andrew Wiggins scored 23 and the Golden State Warriors beat the Houston Rockets 99-93 in San Francisco for the 15th straight year.

With Stephen Curry resting his sore knees and Draymond Green dealing with a sore calf, Golden State used a 21-4 run between the second and third quarters to take the lead it had en route to a losing streak never gave up after five games.

Trying to beat the Warriors for the first time since February 2020, the Rockets got 16 points from Alperen Sengun and 15 from Dillon Brooks in a balanced attack while losing for the second straight year.

Houston had the upper hand through the first 21 minutes of a low-scoring first half, leading 42-40 before Moses Moody sank a three-pointer and Wiggins converted a 27-footer into a four-point play, tying the score of 9:1 The breakout brought the Warriors into the break with a 49:43 lead.

The break didn’t dent Golden State’s momentum, as Wiggins and Kuminga scored three points in a 12-3 effort that opened up a 61-46 lead.

The Rockets got within four twice with 1:36 left in the game, then got within 96-93 on a Sengun layup with 32.6 seconds left.

But Kuminga responded all three times by striking from the inside, connecting on the second of two free throws and then converting a basket with 16.9 seconds left to end the visitors’ hopes.

The Warriors won despite shooting just 41.9 percent. The Rockets finished at 37.6 percent.

Kuminga’s point total was two more than his previous best, which he set in January against the Sacramento Kings.

Brandin Podziemski had 12 rebounds to go and eight points and Kevon Looney had 11 boards for the Warriors, who will face the Rockets in the NBA Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.

Sengun and Amen Thompson each had eight rebounds for the Rockets, and Thompson and Fred VanVleet each had five assists.

Thompson and Jalen Green finished the game with 14 points each for the Rockets, while VanVleet added 13.
