Trump announces new role for his administration, appoints PayPal co-founder as “White House AI and crypto czar”

President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has created a new role for his administration: artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency czar in the White House.

The role will be taken on by tech entrepreneur and podcast host David Sacks.

Sacks “will lead the administration’s policy on artificial intelligence and cryptocurrency, two areas critical to the future of American competitiveness. “David will focus on making America the clear world leader in both areas,” Trump said in his announcement.

“It will protect free speech online and keep us away from Big Tech’s bias and censorship. “He will work on a legal framework so that the crypto industry has the clarity it has asked for and can thrive in the United States,” Trump continued.”

“David will also lead the Presidential Council of Advisers on Science and Technology,” the president-elect said.

Sacks is a longtime ally of Elon Musk in Silicon Valley and has invested in SpaceX. They worked together at PayPal, a company where Sacks was co-founder and later COO. During this time, Musk was the CEO until Confinity rebranded in 2000 and became PayPal.

Sacks held major fundraisers for the Trump-Vance ticket, including one in June at his pro-Trump home in San Francisco, California.

Earlier this year, Trump conducted an interview with Sacks on his “All In” podcast in which he advocated “automatically” giving green cards to non-citizens in the U.S. when they graduate from college – and not just people who go through the verification process.

“(What) I want to do and what I will do is for you to get a college degree. I think you should automatically get a green card as part of your diploma to stay in this country. “That goes for junior colleges too,” Trump said during the episode.

Trump’s response came after one of the hosts, Jason Calacanis, asked Trump if he could promise to “give us more opportunities to import the world’s best and brightest to America.”
