Why Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson are playing the best ball of their careers

On the other side, of course, is Jackson, who many believe is the leading candidate for MVP, an award he won last year and again in 2019.

Jackson appears to have upped the ante, ranking second in the NFL in passing yards (2,876) and on pace to set his career single-season record.

The Ravens quarterback also ranks second in TD passes (25) – already surpassing last year’s total – and has just three interceptions, tied for the fourth-fewest in the NFL. He has the highest QB rating in the NFL (117.3), which would also be a career high.

Preparing for Jackson is a big task with Bolt’s safety guaranteed Tony JeffersonJackson’s former teammate in Baltimore said Wednesday.

“You can’t imitate him, so there’s no way to get a real sense of him in practice because there’s really no one who moves like him or no one who has the pocket speed that he does,” Jefferson said. “A lot of guys have pocket awareness, but they can’t be as elusive as he is in the pocket.

“You really have to watch the film and put yourself in that situation,” he added. “When you’re at the back and covering, all you have to do is block and then when it’s hectic you have to try to take him down because he has that incredible, rare quality of just making people miss.”

Jackson presents a challenge not found with other quarterbacks.

But after having the chance to play against him in prime time last year, the Bolts defense is looking forward to the challenge he presents.

“You just have to watch a movie with that awareness,” Jefferson said. “You’re not really going to get that look in practice because there’s no other quarterback like that.”

Security Alohi Gilman added: “It’s hard to reproduce a guy like that in practice, so it helps to have some experience. When you play against him you have to be on top of it because he can beat you in many ways. It helps to get the opportunity to see him again the second time around.

It’s sure to be a fight under the lights SoFi Stadium between some of the best quarterbacks in the league.
