Are you heading out for Türkiye Day this year? Be prepared to allow extra time to get to your destination as a low pressure system will bring widespread rainfall across New England. This is what you need to know!

The leading edge of the precipitation shield will move into Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts between 7 and 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. The activity is initially light and scattered.

The intensity will increase towards midday as heavy rain clouds move into the region. Some of these embedded downpours will bring gusty winds to the surface, particularly for communities south and east of I-95.

The worst of the rainfall will end around 3pm, but it will take a few more hours for the showers to subside.

Rainfall accumulations from this system will be approximately 0.5 to 1.0 inches locally. There’s no doubt Thanksgiving will be wet, but it should be manageable.

Heading north? It’s going to be a whole different ball game. Once you get to higher elevations (approximately above 1,000 feet), the precipitation turns to snow, resulting in slippery road conditions. Some of the mountainous regions of ME, NH and VT.

After Thanksgiving, there should be no weather issues affecting travel. High air pressure will bring mostly sunny skies again in the northeast. The only caveat is the significantly below average temperatures in the forecast as the calendar turns to December.
