An epic incident took place on the first day of the day-night Test between India and Australia in Adelaide on Friday. Indian batsman KL Rahul seemed to have made his way to ducking in the first session but a no-ball from Australian pacer Scott Boland gave him a lifeline. Rahul, who played alongside Yashasvi Jaiwal for India, had lost his partner Yashasvi Jaiswal on the first ball of the match. He then appeared to have pushed the ball into the hands of the wicket-keeper on the first ball bowled by Boland. However, it turned out that the throw was not a ball and Rahul remained on the field.

However, when the decision on the field fell in favor of the bowling team, India’s No. 4 batsman Virat Kohli left the field to replace Rahul. However, he had to be sent back by the umpires as Boland’s no-ball prevented Rahul from being sent off.

What is interesting is the fact that Snicko did not show any spike when the ball went past Rahul’s bat. It is not clear whether the Indian star had any intention of reviewing the call.

Later in the same over, Rahul was passed over by Usman Khawaja, giving him another lifeline, much to the disappointment of Boland and Australia.

Rahul was eventually dismissed for 37 runs off 64 balls with Mitchell Starc taking his second wicket of the day.

Earlier, India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. India made three changes for the game, bringing in Shubman Gill and Ravichandran Ashwin alongside the captain himself. Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar made way for the trio for the pink-ball Test.
