Texas pulls ahead late and signs five-star DL Justus Terry

One of the biggest dominoes of the Class of 2025 is officially off the board.

Justus Terry, the Rivals250’s No. 9 overall player from Georgia, committed to Texas on Friday, the final day of the Early Signing Period.

The Longhorns surged in the final two-plus months of the recruiting cycle, with Terry, the Rivals’ second-best DT, choosing Texas over Georgia, Auburn and Alabama.

“Texas was having a tough time, so I added them to my recruiting,” Terry told Rivals in the middle of his senior season at Manchester (Ga.) High School.

“I talked to the coaches and heard their spirit, the courage in their voices,” Terry said of the Longhorns staff. “It was second to none.”

The 1.90 meter tall, 110 kilogram defensive lineman was verbally committed to the Dawgs and USC in the summer shortly after Eric Henderson arrived in Los Angeles. Terry reopened his recruitment before his senior year and took a series of visits before signing this week.

First-year DL coach Kenny Baker and area recruiter Tashard Choice spent much of the fall in the Peach State and quickly climbed the rankings along with Terry, who officially visited Austin for the UTSA game in mid-October.

“I talked to Coach Baker and Coach Choice and we nailed it,” Terry explained. “They are thrilled with me. I asked them questions about what position I would play – and I could be a hybrid defensive lineman, and that’s something I wanted to hear about… I wanted to be versatile.”
