Randy Moss is taking an extended break from his role at ESPN for health reasons

Hall of Fame wide receiver Randy Moss will take a break from his role as an analyst on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown” as he deals with a health issue, the network announced Friday.

Moss, 47, urged fans to pray for him and his family in an Instagram post on Sunday. He addressed his message to men, urging them to get examinations and blood tests without mentioning any specific disease.

“I request all prayer warriors to extend their blessing hands to me and my family during these difficult times. Last week people were talking about my eyes,” Moss said before donning a pair of sunglasses. “I’m fighting something, man, and it’s something internal. Your boy will get through this. I have a great medical team and family around me.”

ESPN said in a statement that Moss “will be stepping away from ‘Sunday NFL Countdown’ for an extended period of time to focus on a personal health challenge.”

“For nearly a decade, Randy has been an invaluable member of the team, bringing ‘Countdown’ forward with his insight and passion,” the network said. “He has ESPN’s full support and we look forward to welcoming him back when he is ready.”

Moss played 14 seasons for the Vikings, Raiders, Patriots, Titans and 49ers. His 156 touchdown catches are second only to Jerry Rice and he has 982 catches for 15,292 yards in his career. Moss was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
