The legalization of cannabis has an impact in Hamm

Since the legalization of cannabis in April 2024 and new rules for dealing with the “soft” drug, the situation in Hamm has changed significantly, as current police figures make clear.

Relieving the burden on the police

From April to November 2024, around 100 cannabis-related crimes were registered in Hamm. This corresponds to a decrease of 70 percent compared to the same period last year. The police gave these numbers when LW asked. These are mainly violations of the ban on sales and purchases, which still exists. The relief of the police could also be aimed at the district court, although there are no concrete figures on this.
