Live updates from Friday’s Class 2A, 4A and 6A state championships

The AHSAA Super 7 concludes today with three championship games at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.

The opening game pits Landon Duckworth and top-ranked Jackson against Cherokee County for the 4A state title. In the middle game, Tuscaloosa Academy will face Reeltown for the 2A title. In the nightcap — and finale of the high school season — No. 1 Saraland will face No. 2 Parker for the 6A crown.

1:30 p.m., We have a champion: Jackson secured the Class 4A state championship with a 69-6 win over Cherokee County.

1:18 p.m., Late Pick Six: Jackson defensive back Keegan Chapman intercepts a pass and takes it home for a 47-yard defensive touchdown; An extra point is of no use as Jackson takes a 69-6 lead with 5:42 left./

1:07 p.m., one left: Jackson leads Cherokee County 63-6 heading into the final quarter of the Class 4A state championship game.

1:04 p.m., Aggies add: Landon Duckworth finds receiver Chris Payne for a 32-yard touchdown. Jackson takes a 63-6 lead with 33 seconds left in the third quarter.

Payne has nine catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns, while Duckworth is 14 of 17 with 325 passing yards, five touchdowns and one interception.

12:49 p.m., you miss: Landon Duckworth completes a pass to Jamarrion Gordon, who evades nearly the entire Cherokee County defense for a 28-yard touchdown.

Jackson leads Cherokee County 56-6 with 7:22 left in the third quarter.

12:39 p.m., Quick Work: A solid kick return by Keeyun Champan sets up Ezavier Crowell for a 13-yard touchdown run on Jackson’s first offensive play of the second half; Aggies lead 49-6 with 11:42 left in the third quarter.

The running back has 11 carries for 125 yards and three touchdowns.

12:12 p.m., course of play before halftime: Jackson quarterback Landon Duckworth fires a strike to Keeyun Chapman in the end zone for a 49-yard touchdown.

Jackson takes a 42-6 halftime lead.

Duckworth is 9 of 12 for 217 yards, three touchdowns and an interception for Jackson at halftime.

12:04 p.m., Cherokee County strikes: Warriors quarterback Adam Griffith finds Ben Frampton for a 68-yard touchdown with 29 seconds left in the first half; A 2-point attempt is not good.

Jackson leads 34-6 in the Class 4A state title game.

Midday, runs up the sideline: Jackson’s Chris Payne throws a pass out of the backfield 31 yards down the sideline for a touchdown with 53 seconds left in the first half; Aggies lead 34-0.

Duckworth is an 8-for-10 passer with 168 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

11:57 a.m., turnover for the Warriors: Carson Chesnut intercepted Landon Duckworth to give Cherokee County the ball at its own 31 with 3:17 left in the first half.

11:47 a.m., One Cent from Duckworth: Jackson quarterback Landon Duckworth finds receiver Keeyun Chapman in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown; Aggies led 27-0 with 5:42 left in the first half after the extra point went bad.

Duckworth is 7-for-8 passing with 137 yards and a touchdown.

11:45 a.m., fourth-down sack: Jackson’s Jayden Tate records a sack on fourth down and the Aggies get the ball in Cherokee County territory with 6:58 left in the first half.

11:36 a.m., Jackson extends his lead: Gavin Jackson runs the ball from 3 yards out for the Aggies’ third rushing touchdown of the day with 10:58 left in the first half.

Jackson has 205 total yards of offense, including 111 on the ground, and is 21-0.

11:31 a.m., One Down: Jackson leads Cherokee County 14-0 after one quarter of the 4A championship game.

The Aggies’ defense held the Warriors to just 21 yards of total offense in a quarter; Jackson’s offense has 181 yards of total offense.

11:23 a.m., Another one for Crowell: Ezavier Crowell runs the ball from 1 yard out for his second touchdown of the day, even though Landon Duckworth carried him into the end zone.

Jackson takes a 14-0 lead over Cherokee County with 2:52 left in the first quarter of the 4A title game.

10 a.m., winner: Elba running back and Auburn freshman Alvin Henderson was named the Gatorade Alabama Football Player of the Year. Henderson is also one of three finalists for National Player of the Year.
