Gervonta Davis agrees to rematch Ryan Garcia on one condition

Gervonta Davis vs. Ryan Garcia was one of the biggest fights in recent memory.

The two stars met back in April 2023 in a fight that became a huge commercial success with over 1.2 million PPV buys and a reported gate of $22.8 million.

Both men were undefeated at the start of the fight, but it was “Tank” who emerged victorious, dropping Garcia twice on his way to a stoppage victory in the seventh round.

Since that fight, Davis has defeated Frank Martin and retained his new WBA lightweight title, while Garcia defeated Oscar Duarte and then scored a sensational upset win over Devin Haney, only to have it overturned shortly afterward when details of two failed drug tests emerged.

Garcia was subsequently banned and will be allowed back in the ring in April 2025, with a possible rematch against Davis being repeatedly mentioned as an option upon his return.

Their original fight took place at a catchweight of 136 pounds – something Garcia said seriously hindered his efforts.

“Tank” has now laid out his terms for a rematch, telling ESNews that it would have to take place under the condition of no catchweight and a rehydration clause, with Garcia previously suggesting it should take place at 143 pounds.

“Yes (it’s a huge fight). But not at 143, why 143? Probably at 140, which is the next weight class from 135, it’s the weight class he fights at. Let’s do 140 and he can rehydrate back to 150, or 152 at most, I’m 135 bro.”

Since the interview, the two have verbally agreed that they will repost it on social media.

Meanwhile, Davis will face super featherweight champion Lamont Roach Jr. in what will be his first step up to lightweight. An official announcement is expected in March next year, after being pushed back to December and then January.
