Trump nominates Pence’s former military adviser for a new post in Ukraine

President-elect Trump has nominated a Vietnam War veteran and retired general for a potential new post focused on ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

According to Reuters, Trump created the position of special envoy for the Ukraine conflict and selected Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg for the post.

According to the New York Post, Kellogg was national security adviser to former Vice President Mike Pence and was spotted at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago club on Tuesday.

“I am pleased to appoint General Keith Kellogg as Assistant to the President and Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform. I held sensitive national security roles in my first administration. He was with me from the beginning! Together we will ensure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH and make America and the world SAFE AGAIN!”

Three familiar sources told Reuters that Kellogg had presented Trump with a plan to end the conflict and in April co-authored a research paper that introduced the idea of using weapons supplied to Ukraine as leverage in ceasefire negotiations with Russia.

Kellogg is currently co-chair of the Center for American Security at the America First Policy Institute – which is led by several now-nominated members of the new Trump administration.

AFPI’s board chair is Education Secretary-designate Linda McMahon and its president is Agriculture Secretary-designate Brooke Rollins.
