Quick thoughts on a 76-57 win over Miami (OH):

How it happened

It was another up-and-down affair for Indiana basketball on Friday night in Bloomington. The Hoosiers showed signs of an outstanding game, but it was short-lived. After leading by as many as 12, Indiana returned to its old habits, allowing countless open threes and leading by just three at halftime (39-36). Turnovers were a big problem for the Hoosiers as they scored nine points, which led to 15 points for the RedHawks. Miami went 7-for-16 from beyond the arc in the first half as four players scored on three-pointers. One Hoosier, Myles Rice (14 points), scored in double figures in the first 20 minutes.

Indiana took advantage of a cold start to the second half by Miami (2-9) and extended the lead to eight at 50-42 by the U16 media timeout. But the RedHawks continued to play harder than the Hoosiers and got within five, 50-45, at the U12 media timeout. After that timeout, Luke Goode hit three free throws to give IU a 53-45 lead with 11:27 to play. The Hoosiers then extended the lead to 11 when Trey Galloway hit a 3-pointer – his third of the game – with 7:29 left, forcing Travis Steele to call a timeout. The lead grew to 17 — 67-50 — on a 3-point play by Goode with 5:11 left. The lead grew to as many as 20 as the Hoosiers won their third straight and improved to 7-2.
